james_franklinThe 16 th annual Manheim Touchdown Club Awards Banquet will be held Friday, Friday May 23, at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square beginning with a reception at 5:30 pm. James Franklin, newly named Head Football Coach at Penn State University, will be the featured speaker

Franklin is the 16 th head coach in Penn State’s storied 127 year football history. He comes to the Nittany Lions from Vanderbilt University where he led the Commodores to unprecedented success in the SEC in his three years as head coach. In two of those years he won 9 games and finished in the Top 25 both years. This past season he guided Vanderbilt to a 9-4 record finishing the season with five consecutive victories, with wins over SEC opponents Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and a Compass Bowl victory over Houston. He left Vanderbilt with a 24-15 overall record.

Franklin is from Langhorne, Pennsylvania and Neshaminy High School. He was a 2- time All PSAC quarterback at East Stroudsburg University before getting into coaching. In addition to coaching at Vanderbilt and Penn State he has been an assistant coach at Maryland (twice), Kansas State University, and the Green Bay Packers.

Franklin is known for his ability to recruit, teach and motivate student athletes. He and his staff hit the ground sprinting when he came to Penn State and was able to sign one of the top recruiting classes in the nation for 2014. Their enthusiasm and passion are well documented in the realm of social media.
