Manheim TD Club will honor one of them with its Player of Year award at banquet on May 24.

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA – The Manheim Touchdown Club has announced the finalists for its 9th annual Lancaster-Lebanon League High School Player of the Year award.

Manheim Township quarterback Pat Bostick, Lancaster Catholic quarterback Nick Downey and Manheim Central lineman Marcus Zimmerman will be honored at the Touchdown Club’s banquet on May 24 at 7 p.m. at the Lancaster Host Resort.

One of the three will be named Player of the Year in balloting by the local media.

Al Golden, head football coach at Temple University, will be the keynote speaker at the banquet, with WGAL-TV sportscaster Pat Principe serving as Master of Ceremonies.

A number of other award winners will be recognized at the banquet. They include:

  • University of Michigan quarterback Chad Henne as the College Big School Player of the Year. Henne is a Wilson grad and a three-time winner of the award.
  • Lebanon Valley College wide receiver Adam Brossman as the College Small School Player of the Year. Brossman, a Lebanon High grad, also won the award last season.
  • Grand Valley State University’s Michael McFadden as the third Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year. McFadden, who also won the award last season, is a resident of Saginaw, Mich.

The Upshaw Award is voted on by the 150 NCAA D-2 sports information directors whose schools play football.

And for the first time, the award winner will receive an automatic invitation to participate in next season’s NCAA D-1 East-West Shrine Bowl, to be held Jan. 19, 2008 in Houston, Tx.

The Touchdown Club will also announce the winners of the L-L League’s Landis Brackbill Award at the banquet. The Brackbill Award goes to the league’s best male and female scholar athletes, voted by the L-L’s athletic directors. For the first time, the Touchdown Club will present each with a $1,000 college scholarship.

“It is an opportunity for us to give back to the community,” said Touchdown Club president Don Harris of the scholarships.

The club is billing the banquet and the three days after it as “All-Star Week” because the L-L League Tri-County All-Star Football Game, sponsored by the Touchdown Club, will be held on Saturday, May 26, at 7 p.m. at Central’s Rettew Field.

The 70 players who will participate in the game, along with the coaching staffs, will be introduced at the banquet. Penn Manor’s Bob Forgrave will coach the South, and Lancaster Catholic’s Bruce Harbach will coach the North.

Tickets for the banquet can be obtained by contacting Marc Phillips (665-3940) or by filling out a reservation form on the club’s Web site

Tickets for the all-star game will be available at the gate at a cost of $5 for adults, $3 for students.
